2011 Christmas Decoration Results

Shenandoah, VA, December 19, 2011 – The Shenandoah Merchants Association (SMA) announced the results of the second annual Shenandoah Christmas Decoration Contest. The contest was open to all residences and businesses in the Shenandoah 22849 zip code. Cash and prizes were awarded for the first, second and third place residential decorations.

The winner of the 2011 Shenandoah Christmas Decoration Contest is Robert & Gloria Shenk of 5843 Grove Hill River Road. Second place belongs to Jill Young & Kevin Olinger of 702 Sixth Street and third place goes to Dale & Nancy Karnes of 333 Long Avenue. Special mention is awarded to Robert & Becky Shenk of 5805 Grove Hill River Road.

Each residence was judged in eight categories (Christmas Spirit, Theme, Attractiveness, Workmanship, Originality, Magical, Redneck, and Overall) by three volunteer judges graciously donating their time on a Friday night. This year’s contest was very close with only one point separating the first and second place finishers. If that wasn’t close enough, there was a tie for third place where the new Redneck category proved to be a deciding factor.

The categories with the most points were: Originality, Christmas Spirit, Theme and Attractiveness. The category with the fewest points was Redneck. It seems that the Shenandoah 22849 zip code is an attractive, conservative, traditional area with a talent for originality.
